Monteciccardo

Situated on the hilly territory dividing the lower valleys of the River Foglia and the River Metauro, close to the small valley of Arzilla.
It is mentioned for the first time, together with the castles of Montegaudio and Monte Santa Maria, in a document of 1283 as a castle ruled by the town of Pesaro. In fact, Monteciccardo has always remained loyal to Pesaro over the centuries. Still surrounded by its sturdy escarpment wall, the town retains a few traces of the castle of the Malatesta family which was rebuilt by Francesco di Giorgio Martini towards the end of the 15th Century. The parish church of San Sebastiano is worthy of mention for its painting ("Madonna with Child and Saints") by Bartolomeo di Gentile (1508).
Nearby, it is possible to visit the early Convento dei Servi di Maria, known as "Il Conventino", with its church and campanile. Inside, as well as a delightful cloister, are various halls which are used today for exhibitions and cultural events.
