Sassofeltrio

Stands on a spur of chalky rock, a few kilometres away from the central reaches of the Conca Valley, a short drive away from Mercatino Conca.
This was the ancient town of Sassoferetrano, also known as early as the 8th century by the name of Serra del Sasso. Though the town is still protected by its escarpment wall, it lost its fine castle many years ago - only a few traces remain. The Malatestas had built a fortress here in the 14th Century but Federico da Montefeltro commissioned Francesco di Giorgio Martini to build a new one when he took possession of it.
In the Valle Sant' Anastasio district there is a spring which is well known for the quality of its sulphurous and alkaline waters.
